Why You Should Create a Photography Bucket List | Travel

So, why should you make a bucket list for photography? Well, I’m a firm believer in the power of list-making. In my eyes, if it’s not on a list, it isn’t getting done! That’s my philosophy in my day-to-day tasks, so it makes sense to me that this method of “getting shit done” also extends to my lifelong goals.

People make lists for what they want to accomplish today, this year, and in the next 5 years! This Bucket List that I’m sharing with you today is more like a list of lifelong goals - places that I want to photograph in my entire lifetime as a photographer.

This is a pretty recent invention of mine that I developed in the last three years or so. It was always just floating around in my head, never on paper. Of course, I wish that I had been more aggressive in my pursuit of these places while we lived in Europe for the past three years, but hindsight is 20/20. My husband was stationed in Germany for his job. It was not a vacation, and we did not get to travel everywhere we wanted to. We both had jobs, obligations, and limited funds. (Not to mention COVID-19. Ugh.)

The places I have already photographed that were on my bucket list are:

The Boathouses of Lakes Obersee and Konigsee, Germany

The Alps in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

Almabtrieb Event in the Alps, Germany

(This is when the farmers bring their cows down from the mountains after allowing them to graze all summer in alpine pastures. And when I say alpine pastures, I mean we hiked to the TOP of a mountain and there were cows above the clouds on the very tippy-tops of the peaks.)

Funny story about this one! I had been trying to see this for about two years in a row with no luck, and then on an Alpine hike one summer, Sam and I were walking up the road when we heard a great clanging in the distance. We barely had time to jump out of the way before a stampede of cattle rounded the bend! I whipped out my camera so fast, and they flew down the road at such a speed, that I only got a few pictures. But I was ecstatic!

Without further ado, here is my current Travel Photography Bucket List! Keep in mind that it is very centered on North America and Europe. While I would obviously LOVE to travel to places in the far east like Mongolia and Indonesia (and hey, you never know if one day I might!), I wanted to keep this list realistic to what I would be most likely to actually achieve in my lifetime.

My Photography Bucket List:

Iceland’s National Parks

The Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland

The Scottish Highlands

Hogmanay (New Years Eve), Edinburgh, Scotland

Lavender Fields, Provence, France

The Dolomites, Northern Italy

Tuscany, Italy

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Plitvice Lake National Park, Croatia

Lake Bled, Slovenia

Chefchaouen, Morocco

New England in the Fall, USA

Labor Day Hot Air Balloon Festival, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Zion National Park, Utah

Arches National Park, Utah

Antelope Canyon, Arizona

Yosemite National Park, California

The Day of the Dead Celebration, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Mt. Rainier Summer Wildflower Meadows, Washington

Glacier National Park, Montana

The Northern Lights, Northern Hemisphere

The next place I’m likely to knock off my bucket list?

The Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado. It’s approximately 2 hours from where we live, so we may just be making a weekend trip soon!

So what do you think of my list? Am I missing something big? I’m 100% sure I’m missing some places that haven’t popped up on my radar. Let me know what I should add! Or if you’ve already been to one of these places, help a girl out and give me some pointers! :)

Safe travels everybody! Wear a mask and wash ya hands!
